Maairi Mein Kaase Kahun Peer apne Jiyaki
Madan Mohan/Majrooh/Dastak/Lata, also Madan Mohan/1971
(Suggested by Mrs and Mr Ashok Gopal, Pune)
Whom shall I tell of the pain that sears my heart, mother? Oh, mother!
Have been straining my eyes waiting for my beloved, no one to soothe!
Want to be drenched body and mind, no clouds in the sky!
Waiting to be swept off the feet, no waves come this way!
On the banks of the river, I lie in thirst!
Sitting on the path of the beloved, my pallu has become dusty
The face has paled and eyes dulled without kaajal
If somebody sees me like this, can I ever talk about this matter of my beloved?
Tresses mine carry the dust of separation.
My beloved roams every day in my reverie
but he does not come and touch my arms.
Where will I take this pain of the union with my beloved?
Even after getting the beloved, love remains unfulfilled.
