Itna na mujh se tu pyar badhha...

Singers: Talat Mehmood, Lata Mangeshkar, Film: Chhaya, 1961, Lyrics: Rajinder Krishan, Music: Salil Chaudhary

Hold your love, let's not get intimate
I am footloose like a cloud
it's not for me to give my shoulder
to anyone to lean on.

I don't yearn for the comfort of one place
nor do I like to put a stop to wanderlust
I am on the move from place to place
how long can you put up with me?

That's what attracts me to you
o my wandering floating cloud!
I have been with you for ages
like a perennial flowing river.

You who are so besotted
with the limitless blue of the sky,
when will you recognize my love?
I will keep up with you
till you give up your flight.

Why do you go astray in love
becoming the fancy of a passing cloud?
I am on the move from place to place
how long can you put up with me?

I am in my own world
silent to the world outside
but inside my heart
there are embers from the lightning
that struck ages ago.

How I wanted to shower love
on a garden in blossom
or shower on the play of
mischievous moves!
Alas, my fate buried me
in burnt out earth.

So hold your love, let's not....

Apni to har aah ek toofan hai.....

Film: Kaala Baazaar (1960) Lyric: Shailendra Music: SD Burman

Singer: Mohd Rafi Suggested by: Harry Bellaney

Every sigh of mine carries a storm within

She knows, but feigns ignorance

The Almighty is benign in his pretence

So the sigh goes, the storm rages.

Smile and let your fate sparkle;

Whisper and delight the heart!

If this be difficult, then what can be easy?

Oh how mean of her to feign mighty ignorance!!

All you have to do is keep your hand on my head

And the path will open up in front of this lost traveller

The heart is barren without you

How mightily she feigns ignorance!!

After all it is the heart, how can it not err?

Life makes you lost, before you hit the trail

Forgive this soul, he is human after all.

Oh the mighty one, keep feigning ignorance

While I keep sighing all my storms within

Tum hi mere mandir tum hi meri pooja

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LxVLKM5oeO8

Music Director: Ravi Lyrics: Rajinder Kishan Year: 1965. Producer: Vasu Menon ,movie:Khandan

You are my God, my Temple and my Worship

To know what you mean to me

They need to see through my eyes

.

Wherever I turn, I only see you,

Lost in thought, alas!

Smile and I would be assured,

You are not cut up with me.

You are the shimmer of the bindi

On my forehead

You are the destination of the flowers

In my hand

I am a tiny doll made of this earth

You breathe life into me, o my soul!

It’s quite late now, let me put you to sleep

The breeze is stringing a melody

Let me sing a lullaby to you

Looking at you I see

an angel sleeping here.

The caravan moved away...

Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n30eCPGqIzs
Film: Nai Umar ki Nai Fasl ( New crop of New age)
Lyrics Neeraj Music: Roshan Singer: Mohd Rafi
Song suggested by HM Belani

Dreams fell off the flowers
Thorns pierced my sweetheart
Every adornment got plucked away

Like the Babul tree in the garden.
And I stood there watching the fading blossoms
as the caravan moved away leaving a trail of dust.

I had just woken up and it was already past noon
Before I could take a few steps life had slithered
Every leaf was shed, every twig burnt
My yearning was yet to get words, but age had blown away.
Songs turned into tears, dreams buried
Every lamp at hand covered with grunge.
Stuck at the crossroads, I had stooped
watching the swift passage of youth,
as the caravan....

Oh the vigour of youth! Even flowers fell in love!
And the sheer beauty! Mirrors stood enchanted.
Earth on this side and the skies yonder
The Spirit soared taking everything with it.
But then unknown gales swept in
nipping every bud, wiping out every trail.
Stripped to the bone and trampled upon by times
I kept looking at the intoxication of the lengthening shadows
as the caravan....

We had joined hands so we could brush moon's tresses
Lips had just parted to call out to every blossom of the world
The heart ached to give out love to the saddened souls
and every breath moved so as to bring heaven on earth
Alas, before anything could happen, morning turned into evening
A mighty wave rose and all the castles were in shambles
Terrified I stood with tearfilled eyes
covering myself with the shroud staring at the tomb
as the caravan....

It was a fresh ray of a new day that stepped out bedecked
The drums got into the beat, the feet moved into the jig
Soon the shouts went up," there goes the new bride.."
The whole village sprang to life, askance at the spectacle
Just then a lethal thunderbolt hit upon us
wiping out the sindoor shredding the bridal garments
And dumbfounded
I stood in the house across
with the palanquin watching the devastation
as the caravan....

Meri Jaan: Chalte chalte - Pakeezah

Meri Jaan: Chalte chalte - Pakeezah

Chalte chalte - Pakeezah

Pakeezah (1971): Lyrics - Kaifi Azmi, Music - Ghulam Mohammed, Singer - Lata Mangeshkar

This is my favourite for more reasons than one. First it is written by Kaifi Azmi, whom I like for his simplicity and economy of words. With a few words, he paints a vast universe of emotions very deftly. Second, Meena Kumari looks out of the world in this song. Third, it has been choreographed superbly to a slow beat. Of course, the last but not the least, this is one of the few songs Lata Mangeshkar has sung with great feeling.

=====
As I kept walking, someone happended to meet me just like that at the corner of the road. It is as though my night has stood still at that place; yes, while it was passing out, it got transfixed there.

Times are expressing that which I could not utter. What I kept avoiding has now become a tale that tails me.

The night of waiting may become shorter after all; yet the lamps are going out as they burn with me.

Kaun Aaya Mere Man ke Dwaare

Film: Dekh Kabira Roya 1957 Lyrics: Rajinder Krishan Music: Madan Mohan
Singer: Manna Dey
Kaun aaya mere man ke dwaare paayal ki jhankaar liye ll
Aankh na jaane dil pehchaane sooratiya kuchh aisi
Yaad karun to yaad na aaye mooratiya ye kaisi
Paagal manawaa soch mein dooba sapanonka sansaar liye ll1
Ek pal sochun meri aashaa roop badal kar aayee
Dooje pal phir dhyan ye aaye ho na kahin parachhayee
Jo pardesike ghar aayee ek anokha pyaar liye ll2

Who is it at the door of my mind? I hear the jingles of anklets.

Eyes know not, but the heart recognises the lines
Try as much to recall, I don't seem to get it.
Oh insane me! Lost in the world of my dreams!

Wait a moment, could it be my own hopes in disguise?
But next moment a realisation: reflection it must be
of an unknown love for the traveller from afar!

Tell me, O traveller, whereto are you leading
What's this world -
here desires turn into destinations
dreams gather in concert - beyond the stars ?
Can't figure out where this is.

Caravans of clouds are long past
The earth hidden beneath sheets of clouds
Sure paradise is hereabouts
with this unreal ambience, unreal times.

Answered are the prayers sung by the eyes
it is the youthfulness of my desires
These silences tell a story of their own
Someone whispers, love is still young..

The paths of this life are full of love

and looking ahead the look itself is lost

This breeze is mild and intoxicating, I know not

now where my heart is.
